planeMysterious robotic plane hits 500 days in space; what’s it doing?

A robotic space plane is speeding in low Earth orbit at this very moment. Some say it’s a weapon; others, a data-gathering mission. There’s one fact most agree on as the plane hits 500 days in space: Its real purpose is a mystery.

The Boeing-built X-37B Orbital Space Vehicle, constructed in California, is one-fourth the size of the Endeavour Space Shuttle.

The Air Force craft, purely a test vehicle that will never reach production, in part aims to explore reusable space-vehicle technologies. That means the robotic vehicle can land, but no one will say when.

What could it be?

SweatyHandsSweaty Hands? New Fingerprinting Method Takes Pore Prints

Criminals might not get away so easily, thanks to a new fingerprinting method that may be faster and more reliable than traditional methods, researchers say.

The method images the sweat pores in a human hand using a polymer that glows fluorescent and changes color when it comes in contact with tiny droplets of water. Only a small fraction of the fingerprint is needed to identify an individual, according to the new study.

The sensor technology developed in this study has the potential of serving as a new method for fingerprint analysis and for the clinical diagnosis of malfunctioning sweat pores.

Peacekeeper: The Peaceful First Responders

Listen to the latest Bad Cop News roundup with COP BLOCK

by Liz Reitzig

As difficult as it may be to acknowledge, the unfortunate truth is that we are in a place today where domestic police brutality has taken a dramatic toll on innocent lives. Another casualty of the inflated police aggression is the well-based distrust of the law enforcement system. Taking true stock of the situation, we see that deaths of Americans at the hands of American police officers has surpassed deaths of American soldiers in the Iraq war in part, because our police force is overly militarized. Our distrust is a measured response to a real problem.

These frequent and increasing incidents of government brutality, such as Kelly Thomas, Luis Rodriguez, Justina Pelletier to name only a few, prove that police presence, even in response to a crime, is often a great risk factor for assault and even death. The stories are endless, the facts, wrenching.

People can justify all sorts of cruelties—for many, legality equates to morality. But, as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. so aptly points out in his letters, “Never forget that everything Hitler did in Germany was legal.” The working cultural assumption is that the justice system serves everyone equally. That theory has repeatedly proven false with incarceration levels here higher than any other country and more blacks imprisoned now than during the time of the Jim Crow laws.

To those who think that our police are heroes who protect the safety and the lives of your family, look around you and ask the hard questions. At what point does the “collateral damage” become too great to bear? When it is your beloved pet or beloved child dying? Or when you become the victim of a truly unaccountable system?

In a country fraught with this increasing police brutality and long response times, emerging technologies promise a viable antidote to the rampant and escalating abuse of power.

Cell phone apps have swept the world with solutions to everyday problems, providing connectivity to seemingly disparate populations. One new app offers a promise of peace in contrast to the incessant violence associated with institutionalized law enforcement.

The “Peacekeeper” app does this through a principled vision and clever approach. The app connects community members directly to each other fostering community interdependence by empowering community members to protect each other.

Imagine, instead of making a call to a law enforcement agency that is most likely overworked and far away and certainly trained to respond violently, you press the button on your phone and your previously chosen neighbors will be alerted that you are in danger. They will be able to respond immediately given their proximity to the situation.

The app’s strength is in the geographic proximity, and hence immediacy, of the responders. This provides a keen solution to in-home invasion or any property/personal crimes committed at a physical address associated with the app. In the near future, once the app is widely adopted, this will be a powerful deterrent to criminals knowing that the response team is geographically close to the point of potential crime. Victims of crime will not have to wonder if the responders will treat them as the criminals. They will choose their own responders based on who they trust.

While there are still a few wrinkles to work out and wide adoption is needed in order for this to have maximum benefit, the vision and potential for this app are unparalleled. This truly creates the setting where a law enforcement agency is not needed and not desired.

The app is available now to Iphone users (in Beta version now which is free) and by the end of May for Android users. Additional functions of the app are still in development. The founders are committed to seeing improvements that allow for crime response and crime protection anywhere you go. At $30 per year, the app is the best way to peacefully protect yourself and your community.

An added, but not primary, benefit of the app is its ability to assist victims of government brutality. With the increasing level of government raids–many of these raids against small farmers and other property owners–this app proves to be the best possible solution for wide dissemination of information related to government aggression. The same functions that allow you to alert your neighbors of a home invasion will also alert them of government agents beginning a raid on your farm or property. Close neighbors, or those on the list to alert, will be notified and have the chance to witness and film an encounter with police or regulators.

The app has two levels of notifications. The first level is to notify close neighbors who are committed to respond in moments to a reported “incident.” A secondary list of “allies” alerts a wider distribution of friends and family about any crime or aggression. This gives them the opportunity to get the word out quickly about any incident whether it is a property crime or government raid. The dual purpose and benefits of this app are clear.

The vision of the Peacekeeper app is beautiful. It is a vision of people coming together to bring us to a free and peaceful future by replacing the monopoly that is the police force and the need to rely on such a force. The app does this in a way that nourishes and fosters community involvement and true neighbor-to-neighbor interdependence where peace and liberty can thrive.

A system that continuously brutalizes peaceful people, will, inevitably, result in the rampant cruelty we have witnessed. Conversely, opting out of a failing system and supporting a workable solution, allows for the opportunity to create a new future.

Get the app. Sign up your neighbors. Use it. Spread it. We have a free future ahead of us. Let’s find each other now.

Eyes Over Compton How Police Spied on a Whole CityMysterious ‘Man-Eating’ Holes Appear in Sand Dune

Last summer, 6-year-old Nathan Woessner was walking across the sands of Mount Baldy in the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore when he suddenly disappeared into a deep hole. It took a team of rescuers about three hours to pull Woessner to safety from beneath 11 feet of sand and sediment.

More holes have appeared in Mount Baldy, forcing officials with the National Park Service (NPS) to close part of the park, located 55 miles southeast of Chicago on the shores of Lake Michigan. But why are these dangerous holes suddenly appearing in the sand dunes?

This particular dune has a lot of history. The site was once mined for sand used in the manufacture of glass Mason jars. There are also manmade structures like an old wooden staircase buried beneath the surface of the dune. Historical photographs of the area determine what has changed since the 1930s. Trees and grass that once covered Mount Baldy are now also buried.

Researchers say that the age of the materials and the wet conditions during the spring of 2013 may have forced these materials to become unstable, collapsing and creating openings to the surface.

Researchers Track Isolated Amazon Tribe With Google EarthResearchers Track Isolated Amazon Tribe With Google Earth

As you can imagine, it isn’t easy to study uncontacted tribes in Amazonia. And the history of western interaction with these tribes is dark indeed, often leading to the destruction of these peoples’ way of life. So researchers have come up with a less invasive way of keeping tabs on them: tracking them via Google Earth.

In a study published in the American Journal of Human Biology, researchers analyzed satellite images of one particular Amazon village on the border of Brazil and Peru, and calculated that it has fewer than 40 inhabitants.

Deforestation, cattle ranching, illegal mining, and outside colonization threaten their existence. There are somewhere between 70 and 100 uncontacted groups in Amazonia.

Yet Again, “Terrorism” Claim by FBI Employees Is Void

Listen to the latest Bad Cop News roundup with COP BLOCK

A militia member indicted in what the FBI once characterized as a terror plot to blow up a Minnesota police station has been sentenced to three years and four months. Twenty-five-year-old Buford Rogers will receive credit for the year he’s already spent in jail. Fifty 50 law enforcement officers raided his parents’ mobile home in Montevideo last May. Rogers was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to one count of possessing a firearm illegally and one count of possessing an unregistered destructive device.

– so it was reported in an unsigned Associated Press write-up posted at MN-based KSTP.

Buford "Bucky" Rogers

Buford “Bucky” Rogers

Rogers was labeled a “terrorist” on the national news thanks to the keen investigations done by some folks wearing badges but in the end, the millions spent on all those involved netted what? A guy who is supposed unable to own a certain type of property that is conducive to protection admitted* that he had a firearm. Also, that he had a destructive device**.

Even the person who oversaw the legaland hearing, Ann Montgomery, admitted that the case received an “inordinate amount of attention” for something routine for her and her colleagues.

*I’m not sure what offense Rogers is said to have done, or did previously, but I certainly don’t believe everyone labeled a “felon” should not have the choice to keep and bear arms if they so choose – many did nothing violent but may have possessed a plant or traveled without a permission slip.

**Rogers’ father said he had some pipes for plumbing. Rogers acknowledged having some black powder. Where’s the victim?

Ultimately both issues – the firearm and the “destructive device” comes down to an issue of compliance. Or more specifically, to non-compliance.

Rogers did not obey the proscribed dictates by some people who claim the right to rule him and you and me. Rogers had a firearm when he was told he wasn’t supposed to. The issue wasn’t the “destructive device,” it was his failure to get permission. If those who seek to control others are ignored they loose credibility. Their legitimacy erodes. As it should.

Rogers is one of the most recent to be caught up as part of the marketing scheme used by employees of the federal bureau of investigation:

  • a person stands out (under whatever metric is used to determine the “enemy” or the “other” that week)
  • information about the person is collected, in many cases a third person is paid to capture or share that information
  • some level of comfort, or familiarity, is reached
  • plans are suggested, resources are procured and provided (though are controlled and inert throughout)
  • the unsuspecting person is kidnapped and caged
  • press releases are sent out by the captors, who may also hold a press conference, to delegitimize the person and misrepresent the reality of the situation
  • the captors may suggest other tenuous claims of deeds allegedly done or contemplated by the person
  • numerous times the person is brought to legaland for arbitrary exchanges
  • the person is told that if they admit guilt to one claim against him or her, that the punishment will be less severe (only a limited time in a cage)
  • in most of these situations the individuals roped into these shenanigans, who, unless the “evidence” against them is so flimsy, may later plead guilty out of damage control, do not ever initiate force against person or property, though throughout the entire charade, the surveillers, investigators, MRAP operators, police employees, jailors, prosecutor, judge, stenographer, etc., subsist on money taken by force or its threat, under the pretense of safety and protection.

As was noted in early February in “Terrorists” in Minnesota – Latest Fable of FBI Employees:

Once Rogers was arrested the FBI launched its spin campaign. Just standard operating procedure out of the FBI book on what to do on the heels of a “terrorism” plot bust. Rogers was said:

  • to be the founder of the Black Snake Militia
  • to have posted to his Facebook page in 2011 that “The war is here tsp agents are doing random cheeks and shooting people for no reason”
  • to have flown a united states flag upside down
  • to have a sign on the property that said “We are not slaves”

Even if all those things are true, they’re certainly not criminal.

That KSTP story referenced earlier ended by stating:

Authorities say Rogers and some family members belonged to a small anti-government militia called the Black Snake Militia.

Who are “Authorities”? Is someone an authority simply because they claim it so?

And why the dig for ostensibly being “anti-government”? Clearly because the text was crafted by the corporate media machine that acts as the fourth pillar of the government that is opposed, or more precisely, the type of government. I don’t pretend to know Rogers’ beliefs intimately. But based on input from various sources, I do believe he recognized that what today exists is not ideal.

Someone might claim that I am anti-government, but that is not true. I am pro-government – self-government.
